THE CHALLENGE

In 2023, SAT went digital, creating an immediate and widespread vacuum in the global test prep market. While the official Bluebook app provided a glimpse of the new format, students were left anxious and unprepared without a robust environment for rigorous practice. Our challenge was to reverse-engineer and replicate the exact look, feel, and logic of the official testing environment, and to launch this high-fidelity simulator fast enough to capture the market before established giants like Kaplan could react.

THE OUTCOME

In a sprint of just two weeks, I designed, developed, and launched SATx as a fully operational premium coaching service. We successfully onboarded two distinct cohorts totaling over 55 paying students, validating a strong product-market fit in a volatile landscape. Beyond the software, the platform delivered a seamless end-to-end digital experience that integrated live coaching with our bespoke exam simulator, providing students with the confidence they needed to succeed in the new digital era.

The usual coaching giants were unprepared for the transition of DSAT, first held on March, 2023

And the students were left anxious...

“I am proficient in the conventional SAT but I am not going for a retake because of digital SAT. The question pattern is different. It would be an expensive investment. I would rather focus on other aspects of my application process,” said Adhora who is currently studying at Sewanee: The University Of The South at Tennessee, USA.

“I can’t prepare for the SAT exam as there aren’t enough materials to practice and understand the exam properly as they went digital now,” said Samir who ended up going to Australia’s RMIT University.

“The digital SAT is producing extra stress on top of an already stressful exam. I don’t think preparing for it is worth the trouble,” said Adwitiya who decided to stay in Bangladesh and goes to BUET now.

Our big idea

Let’s create a Digital SAT simulator

The process we followed

We spent hours living inside the official Bluebook app, trying to inhabit the mind of a student on test day. It wasn't just about reverse-engineering a UI; we wanted to understand the gravity of that environment—how a ticking timer or a specific button placement could either calm a student down or ramp up their anxiety. We forensically analyzed every interaction and psychological trigger, mapping out the exact friction points students feared most. By deconstructing the app this way, we moved beyond a simple visual clone to create a simulation that felt heavy and authentic, ensuring that when our students eventually sat for the real exam, the interface was the last thing they had to worry about.

We extracted the UI elements

And polished them

Launched the first version in two weeks

And iterated it over time
